Oh…My…God!

I have cried at a grand total of about 8 books in my lifetime. Now it’s 9. This book was incredible, and while I might have cried at any of the truly impactful emotional moments that absolutely litter this book, it was actually getting to the end and realising that this journey was over.

I really liked Assassin’s Apprentice, I thought it was a masterfully written classic of the Genre that truly made me care for these character. But this book is a step up in every possible way, and has immediately entered the realm of my all time favourite books. To the point where I’m itching like mad for book three, and I’m angry at all the books in my TBR that are forcing me to wait to get to book 3 (I have a policy against reading a series all in the row because I don’t want to leave the worlds too quickly).

Royal Assassin continues the journey of FitChivalry Farseer in his attempt to save the Farseer dynasty from the machinations of Prince Regal. With King Shrewds health rapidly deteriorating, King-In-Waiting Verity using all of his energy in the battle against the Red Ship Raiders, and the enigmatic Chade dedicating his energies to endeavours of a different nature, Fitz is forced to do his utmost to intervene in affairs he simply isn’t apt to solve on his own. With Quests, Battles, Bonds, and Torture, this book is far more action packed than its predecessor, but missing none of the perfect prose that made the first so utterly bingeable.

This has emotional impact at every turn, the relationships between Fitz and literally every member of the cast of characters being so real and raw, they struggles become his struggles, which in turn become ours. If you aren’t emotionally connected to literally every plot thread along the way, I don’t know what you are doing reading fantasy.

One of the best books I have ever read.

Get a special edition, with the sprayed edges, made of solid gold if you can find it.

5 stars. 6 stars. How many stars can I give and still have a rating system mean anything? Best book I have read this year.
